Best curry house in the wickersley/ whiston area by far. If you want better you have to go to Akbars

I have used Punjab in the past and been impressed with them. However, I had food from them two nights ago and am now thinking "never again".
A simple order, Special Biryani, Tarka Dall and Garlic Nan. I am used to biryani which has light fluffy rice, fresh vegetables (like peas), an aromatic smell and a spicy vegetable curry with it. I got: totally overcooked greasy-sodden rice with old overcooked meat in it which didn't taste of much and certainly wasn't fragrant. The only fresh thing in there was some chopped red and green pepper. Think heavy and greasy, not light and tasty. The sauce that came with it is best described as vinegar and passata - honestly no vegetables in it whatsoever. I poured it on and it filtered through my rice, leaving a puddle on the plate. The meat was solid, like it had been cooked some time ago. I stopped after a few mouthfuls. It did not even taste of curry.
The tarka dall was an improvement. It had a curry taste, was spicy, but was very greasy also and with undercooked lentils in it, which rendered that also inedible. The garlic nan - well nothing can go wrong with that can it? Actually yes. Somehow they managed to make it amazingly greasy so the paper it was in was slaked in grease. Anyone who has had a real nan straight from a tandoor would not recognise this rubbish.
Considering Punjab just opened another outlet in Rotherham, I would expect their food to be great. It's the opposite, and it's not something I will spend my hard-earned cash on any longer. Bye bye.
